Nike's Newest Air Max Is More Than the Sum of Its Parts

The Air Max 270 blends two archive styles for a totally modern look.

Never one to shy away from trying something new, Nike has introduced a fresh silhouette to the Air Max line: the Air Max 270. Of course, with Nike's impressive archive, this latest style isn't just pulled out of thin air. Rather, it's a fusion of two previous Air Max models: the 93 and 180.

The new sneaker makes its debut on Nike's SNKRS app on February 1, and a barrage cheap air max for sale of colorways arrives later on Air Max Day, March 26. (It's the day the first-ever Air Max sneaker was released back in 1987.)

Taking a closer look, you can see where the 270's design language is drawn from. The Air unit wraps entirely around the midsole and outsole, just like 1991's Air Max 180. The heel-to-toe height ratio—not to mention the sock-like upper—owe their inspiration to the Air Max 93. As for the name? It's a reference to the fact that this latest outsole features 270 degrees of wrap-around Air at the heel. (Also, 180 plus 93 is 273, which is pretty close to 270.)

In addition to all of that, the 270 is the first Air Max with a 32mm heel. In other words, this is the tallest Air Max ever—so you can expect a whole lot of support, cushioning, and responsiveness. The Teal OG colorway you see here will drop on Air Max Day. How can we be sure? Well, "March 26" is printed on the insole. Seems like a pretty good indication to us.
